a noun meaning “the revival of art and literature under the influence of classical models in the 14th–16th centuries.” Alternatively, more simply put, a renewed interest in something.
When talking about
The Renaissance, images of Italy in the Middle-Ages will conjure to mind; however, that is just a famous example of a renaissance. Here at Renaissance Rising, we believe that we are in for a new renaissance- an intentional one- Renaissance Rising.
Much like with Dante and his famous collection of works, The Divine Comedy, Renaissance Rising will take the reader on a journey s it happens. Hindsight and retrospect will only come into play as new knowledge comes to light about old subjects.
It may sound funny
to think that we need a renaissance in today’s day and age. The amount that we are learning, and how fast technology is developing every day is baffling. The information that is available in five minutes in current society would have taken polymaths of the past months of studying to master.
A “Polymath” is an individual whose knowledge spans a significant number of subjects, known to draw on complex bodies of knowledge to solve specific problems. The word comes from Greek: πολυμαθής, polymathēs, “having learned much”;Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In modern-day, nearly anything that we want to know is available at our fingertips to nearly every human being in nearly every location on Earth.
Let that sink in for a minute. ANY OTHER time you study about in history- all the people of that time combined did not have as much information available to them as one average person living on the planet does today.
So why on Earth
would a site like Renaissance Rising find it necessary to spring forth? Here at RenRising, we believe that while technology (science) is advancing, the arts and language (the ability to craft with one’s hands and communication skills) are sorely lacking. As humans, we have only developed as far as we have because of our ability to listen and retain. We need to go back to the basics as a human species with these disciplines. While we are at it- why not all disciplines?
Humans of antiquity only learned and grew when they could remember and pass on information- often in short pithy and profound phrases. “Do not count your chickens before they hatch,” “Do not put all your eggs in one basket,” and other short phrases are common in almost every language on Earth, and there are over 6000 of them currently!
Why is that?
They are succinct and memorable. Meaning the principles can be chopped down to a few words with ample meaning. “More bang for your buck,” if you will.
and focusing equally on science and art- synthesizing the disciplines as we do- will help us to craft more synergistic perspectives in life. According to research done by Howard Gardner in his book “The 5 Minds Of The Future,” the thinkers and movers of the future will be the polymaths that can synergize multiple academic disciplines into whole new realms of study. Possibly the disciplines that will help us to discover the theory of everything.
Between the brilliant minds of Renaissance thinkers, and the genius brains of today, it would be easy to believe all information and knowledge has been acquired.
Take for Dark Energy, for example.
“What Is Dark Energy?
“More is unknown
than is known. We know how much dark energy there is because we know how it affects the universe’s expansion. Other than that, it is a complete mystery. But it is an important mystery. It turns out that roughly 68% of the universe is dark energy. Dark matter makes up about 27%. The rest – everything on Earth, everything ever observed with all of our instruments, all normal matter – adds up to less than 5% of the universe. Come to think of it; maybe it shouldn’t be called “normal” matter at all since it is such a small fraction of the universe.”
all we have studied and learned as humans in over 150,000 years comprises less than five percent of the matter in the universe. Less than, because of the 5% we have studied, we surely do not know everything (can we cure cancer or HIV? Effectively and every time? Can we describe why light is a wavelength and a particle? How much do we know about water and all its properties- it is the only substance on Earth that can take three different forms and still retain its original nature, how?)- which means that there is lots more to discover yet.
The Renaissance of the past started in large part due to intolerance of anything not related to the church. Scientists and would-be scientists were criticized, deemed crazy, and sometimes burned at the stake.
The Renaissance needed today is one that will appreciate science for what it can offer, equally appreciating what religion can teach us; while synthesizing it into a new form of consciousness.
While the effects
of the last renaissance were widespread, it was mostly geographically localized and dominated by men.
The Renaissance we need will be global- and it will affect all people. We can reach the entire planet like never imagined in history. RenRising will be unlike anything seen before. We have the ability to see some real change in our lifetimes.
The technology exists
for us as a planet to switch from finite crude oils to sustainable crops that can produce the same outcomes as the harmful oil. We can save our oceans from single-use plastics while cleaning up the trash that is already there. We can manufacture products using sustainable methods that are beneficial to the planet and the consumer. We can do all these things and more- we just have to want it.
That means placing money and profits behind learning and growing.
Let us be honest money is all but fictional in today’s market. Many ‘first world’ citizens do not even interact with physical money anymore. That means that all the coins in our banks are as good as dust.
Money is easily stripped away; knowledge and memories cannot.
of this site, if there were one, would be that of knowledge. Money can only get one so far- knowledge can get one money, and even further. That means that not only will we redefine “success” and what that means- but we will look at “The American Dream” and why it is so detrimental for the entirety of the planet.
This Renaissance Rising will have to defy conventions and orthodoxy, embarking on a challenging, sometimes lonely, and possibly “crazy” roads. That is what critics will claim, at least. RenRising knows otherwise.
Think of Aristotle, Galileo, Copernicus,
or just about any great polymath that has graced this planet. They were marked as “crazy” by their contemporaries- yet it is their names we know, not the nameless critics of their day.
Remember Edward George Bulwer Lytton’s famous words,
“The Pen is Mightier than the Sword.”
Only those literate and educated can write- and write well enough for millennia of future generations to remember- so together, let us learn, educate ourselves, and write something worth remembering far into the future.
Here at Renaissance Rising,
we are committed to growth, learning, and development, respect, and open minds. We implore people of different backgrounds, nationalities, religious beliefs, and sexual orientation to join in the conversation.
There is space here for everyone.

“A Mistake Is Only A Mistake If You Don’t Learn From It.”
That has been a guiding quote
in my life. Transitioning from teenager to adult- I couldn’t move forward until I came to terms with it. Once I did- it was freeing! Please forgive any errors we may make (especially in our early days), but also please politely and respectfully inform us where we have made mistakes, and we will gladly look into it.
